Naylors of Wakefield

Contemporary DDA Accessibility for Offices

Requirement

Naylors of Wakefield required a contemporary DDA accessibility solution for its new offices. The solution needed to be cost effective and of contemporary design, ensuring it was in keeping with the overall architecture of the building.

Solution

A totally free-standing, vertical platform lift was specified, which is easily tailored to suit individual requirements. This disabled platform lift comes as standard with an emergency battery back up switch in case of mains power failure. The platform lift can travel up to 13m and was manufactured in a standard broken white finish that would suit the décor and contemporary environment.

A pit of 50mm was dug into the floor to provide flush level access into the lift. The small pit ensures the lift does not impact on the structure of the building, making it a cost-effective solution.

Traditionally, the power supply is required at the upper level. Due to an existing supply already in place, the lift design was modified so that it could be located on the lower level. This also helped to reduce costs, as the lift installation would work within the building’s parameters.

Benefits

The lift installation means the Naylors of Wakefield premises has full disabled access, and is compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. Aesthetically, the lift’s contemporary design is in keeping with the overall architecture of the building.
