DDA Access & Goods Lift for Theatre

New Vic Theatre

Requirement:

To provide an access lift for the theatre’s new three floor, state-of-the-art, community studio and prop storage area. As well as being DDA compliant, the access solution would also need the capacity to carry heavy loads. The props storage area in the basement would require a controlled access solution, to ensure only authorised members of staff could access the basemen

Solution

The Internal Vertical type lift was specified, which has a load capacity of 1000kgs. The Internal Vertical type lift can be installed with minimum disruption, as only a 200mm pit is needed in the floor. The lift has the option of adding a key switch, which would solve controlling access to the basement.

The New Vic Theatre opted for the two glazed panels at each landing, which ensured the access solution remained contemporary and in keeping with the venue’s décor, but also created increased lighting to the inside of the lift.

Benefits

The New Vic Theatre, now boasts a fully DDA compliant lift, that provides controlled access to the basement and access to the ground and first floors. Staff can now move heavy props with ease, to the different levels of the building.
