Robbie will take care of your platform lift

Meet Robbie Skeates, our new Service and Maintenance Coordinator, who will be ensuring every platform lift has a service package in place and will provide all the parts for upgrades and repairs. In this interview Robbie tells us more about himself. 

What were you doing before you joined the Platform Lift Company?

I am a painter and decorator by trade but due to a sinus issue I had to stop and change career. Luckily, I could incorporate my construction experience with customers services by finding work within the lift industry – Andover is home to two of the biggest companies within this sector. Before joining the Platform Lift Company, I worked at Stannah for a year as an estimator for the goods lift department.

In your opinion, what would you say are your main skills?

My passion and determination to be successful. I am efficient, hardworking and unusually for a man, I can multitask whilst keeping my head.

Tells us about your biggest achievements?

Workwise I would say successfully managing incoming enquiries for three of Stannah's departments which included platform, goods and passenger lifts. I managed all of this whilst also carrying out my estimating role. It was crazy busy but I smashed it every day.

In my personal life I am also very driven. In just four years of management I have taken my local football team to league titles and won several cups. I have also recently taken over Amesbury Town Football club as first team manager.

When I am not on the pitch I am on the cricket ground. I captain Wherwell cricket club and during eight seasons have received a number of promotions.

How do you see your new role developing and what do you hope to achieve? 

My goal is to create a well-oiled business machine where every end customer has signed up to our service and maintenance package. Then with my other hat on, I want to make sure we are the main go-to provider for all platform lift parts within this country.

Tell us how you are you going to achieve this?

Keeping track of the whole life cycle of each platform lift installed. There are also opportunities to revisit previous installs with the offer of servicing and upgrades.

Finally, can you share any fun facts about yourself? 

I am a massive sports fan and Leeds United supporter. I had zero choice in this decision after my dad made my mum wear a Leeds shirt as she gave birth to me.

Favourite band must be the Arctic Monkeys. Love them!

Just one last fact which people may think is weird is I really like lifts. Maybe because it is has become ingrained into me because of my work, but I think I have become a ‘lift spotter.’  Honestly, I get excited if I see one of our products installed when I am travelling around, especially if it is a Motala or a FlexStep which I believe are the best products.
